Procedure

  1. 1Step 1: Add approximately 80 mL distilled water to a 250 mL beaker
  2. 2Step 2: While stirring gently, slowly sprinkle 10.0 g SDS powder to minimize foaming
  3. 3Step 3: Stir continuously at room temperature until completely dissolved (may take 30-60 minutes)
  4. 4Step 4: Allow foam to subside completely before proceeding
  5. 5Step 5: Transfer to 100 mL volumetric flask and dilute to final volume with distilled water
  6. 6Step 6: Mix thoroughly by gentle inversion

Sterilization

Filter through 0.22 μm membrane filter into sterile container. Do not autoclave as high temperature may cause precipitation or degradation.

Safety

Safety Level 2: Wear nitrile gloves, lab coat, and safety glasses. Use fume hood when handling powder to avoid inhalation. SDS is a moderate irritant - avoid skin and eye contact. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.

Storage

Store at room temperature in tightly sealed container away from light. Solution is stable for 1 year. May form crystals at low temperatures - warm to room temperature and mix before use if crystallization occurs.
